Greek charity work is something Villa Hurmuses believes in. That is why we are proud to support the non-profit organization called Emfasis. Emfasis was started by Greek citizens living abroad. They work with volunteers in Athens to respond to various social needs during the Greek economic crisis.
The organization relies 100 percent on private donations. More than 68,000 volunteers have participated in various project out on the streets of Greece. Emfasis coordinates socio-educational missions that aim to help people who are socially vulnerable or socially excluded.
We sat down with Maria Karra and Katerina Velliou of Emfasis for this special blog post to bring more awareness to the great Greek charity work they are accomplishing.

Every great story worth reading starts with a hero and a journey. We’re going to share with you “A Tale of Traditional Mykonos: The Past and the Present.”
Once upon a time, as early as the 11th century, the first settlers came to the island. They were known as the Ionians from Athens. Later, the island became part of the Byzantine Empire. By 1390, the island fell under Venetian rule. In 1718, the castle of Tinos fell to the Ottomans, and the last of the Venetians withdrew from the region. Up until the end of the 18th century, Mykonos prospered as an important trading center attracting many immigrants from the nearby islands as well as regular pirate raids.
What makes staying on our island such a unique experience for our visitors is the island’s architecture and Mykonos design. The bright whitewash of the homes is one thing, but the local market design and decoration influenced from the Grecian beauty that surrounds us each day also contributes to the inspiration for Mykonos interior design elements.
That’s why we sat down with Theodore Zacharis and Marios Sergidis of Cosset, the team behind the Mykonos interior design company. We love the work they do which focuses on elegant design, details and customization. Continue Reading…
A fun way to see Mykonos is by paddling through its beautiful seas. Mykonos Kayak are the local experts to experience kayaking in Mykonos. Our adventurous and outdoor loving guests have enjoyed many excursions with them. We recently sat down with Jo and Kostas Siopiros, owners of Mykonos Kayak. Kostas and his family know exactly where to kayak in Mykonos and simply love sharing the natural beauty of our island in a “safe, fun and eco-friendly manner.”
How did the idea of offering sea kayak services in Mykonos come to you?
Sea kayaking has been a passion of our family for many years. We have relatives and friends from all over the world that visit us each summer and one of our favorite thing to do with them is taking them out for the day sea kayaking. It’s the best way to explore the unique natural beauty of the Mykonian coastline. We decided five years ago to make the jump and develop our hobby into a business. We wanted to share the Mykonos we love with visitors to the island. At the same time, we thought perhaps we can help change the image that Mykonos is just a party island. Our sea kayak tours show that Mykonos is much more than just that!
