Deciding on your Villa Massage

There is no better time to enjoy a relaxing massage than in the privacy of your villa during your holidays in Mykonos. Other than deciding on what your villa massage should be, the rest of your holiday will be carefree as you enjoy the sunny days lazing by the pool, sipping Greek wine and savoring freshly cooked dishes prepared by the villa staff.

The Massage Menu

There are many different styles, types and techniques of massages which are practiced by massage therapists worldwide. Each one caters to a different need and carries individual health benefits. To help you choose which massage suits you best, we have compiled a list of popular types of massages.

Cranial Sacral Massage

This type of massage is a form of bodywork that releases compression in those areas which alleviate stress and pain. Cranial sacral therapy is a practice that restores the natural position of the bones and is used to decrease stress from chronic injuries as well as provide relief from migraine headaches, neck and back pain. Such bodywork is known to improve the quality of sleep and to minimize migraines. You may ask our massage therapist to add this treatment to your massage session.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is similar to the Swedish massage. However, it uses deeper pressure which releases chronic muscle tension. In this treatment, therapists use their knuckles and elbows to apply deep pressure onto specific trouble points. This type of massage is popular among athletes or those who have very dense tissue. It can leave you feeling sore after the treatment. Remember that it is always important to speak to your therapist and let them know if the pressure needs to be adjusted as some trigger points may be more sensitive to pressure than others.

Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu is a popular massage which is an effective treatment for any medical condition. It is based on an ancient Japanese technique that applies the use of finger pressure which is used to work on different pressure points. The difference with other massages is that during this treatment you remain clothed. Shiatsu is recommended for treating headaches, back pain and lack of sleep.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage, also known as the classic massage, is one of the most common and widely used massages.  It is an introductory massage that releases stress and is great for tense muscles. It uses several styles of strokes. Effleurage strokes are long, sweeping strokes which are used in the beginning and at the end of the massage. Petrissage strokes involve movements with applied pressure which are deep and compress the underlying muscle.

Thai Massage

The Thai Massage is based on a combination of Indian and Chinese traditions of medicine and is a deep, full-body massage that focuses on the energy lines of the body. The therapist applies all his or her body when completing this treatment meaning the therapist stretches you while applying pressure on your muscles and loosening the joints. This type of massage is both energizing and relaxing at times, as it draws on yoga, acupressure and reflexology.
