The Mediterranean Retreat at Villa Hurmuses is a wellness retreat unlike any other. In an interview with Sharona Hurmuses, we find out why…
Wellness Retreat at Villa Hurmuses
If you’re looking for a unique retreat on the Greek islands, there is one that will be taking place on Mykonos that is quite special. It’s our own! We began the Mediterranean Retreat to offer a new kind of getaway for travelers that need to get away and experience relaxation on Mykonos.
In part one of our Relaxation Series, we sit down with Sharona Hurmuses who is the name and owner behind Villa Hurmuses as well as the Mediterranean Retreat coordinator.
Sharona is an accomplished personal trainer, award-winning fitness competitor and trusted wellness coach. She brings forward her enthusiasm for healthy living and her fitness expertise to the Mediterranean Retreat. Over her 17 years of experience in the health and wellness industry, she has consistently focused on helping her clients and guests live a satisfying life.
You have been running Villa Humuses for years now. That’s why you know Mykonos very well and what your guests expect. In your view, why is Villa Hurmuses the perfect place to experience a wellness retreat?
A big part of the wellness retreat experience is your surroundings. Villa Hurmuses is special because of that. It was decorated with passion. Throughout the villa you’ll find our own family’s personal touches as well as handpicked decorative pieces. I feel the decoration has given warmth and charm to the villa and that is special. Your stay is nothing like staying in just another hotel room. I feel this makes a big difference to our clients. They have told us how they feel the personal touches and the unique local Greek island charm during their stay.
Define what a healthy and balanced lifestyle means?
Everyone longs to be healthy and happy. After all, what’s the point in working towards having a long and healthy life if you can’t enjoy it? For one, focusing on a healthy lifestyle by exercising and making time to eat right is great for your body. There’s no doubt about that. However, balanced living also means protecting your mental and emotional health, too. With that in mind, stress reduction needs to be at the top of your to-do list. Balanced living means considering all aspects of your life: relationships, work, fitness and health, and emotional well-being.
We all get bogged down with work and family responsibilities from time to time but making time for yourself is necessary so that you can keep up with all your responsibilities. All batteries get run down. It’s important to recharge your body physically and mentally and make the commitment to enjoy some “you time” every day.
What are some of your favorite things about the whole atmosphere of Mykonos that inspired you to think of starting a wellness retreat at the villa?
I love spring and autumn. These are the times of the year I chose to have the retreats. It’s the most relaxing time to come to Mykonos because the atmosphere overall is very calm and revitalizing. I feel the island is a different place during these times of the year. You can feel it in the people and the environment. Spring brings laughter and freshness around the island with the island being a little more colorful. Autumn brings a sense of relaxation and calmness after a busy summer. Our environment at the villa transcends that spirit. Our team at Villa Hurmuses aims to share that with our guests who are seeking that peace and beauty.
What makes the Villa Hurmuses wellness retreats unique compared to what other villas may offer in Greece?
We are not the typical yoga retreat. I believe in a balance lifestyle with programs that cover relationships, family, work, friendships, fitness, health, nutrition and emotional well-being. From its location, décor, hospitality and surroundings, Villa Hurmuses is the perfect place for a wellness retreat in Greece and the Greek islands.
